Wedding Day Helpers

John and I opted to not have an official Wedding Party, but we have lots of people who are special to us, and have important roles on our Wedding Day. Here are some of them!

  • Breana Whitehouse, niece of the bride

    Chief Ring Bearer and Dog Whisperer

    Kathie and Breana have always been very close throughout Bre's 11+ years on this planet. She is my very favourite (and only) niece, and I think she is an amazing young woman with a sense of humour - and adventure - much like her aunt's. It has been a cool experience to watch her develop into the unique (and tall!) individual she is. So, when it came to selecting someone to have a special role on our wedding day, Breana was a "no-brainer."

    After all, for the last six years Breana has been polling strange men if they were single, because her aunt was single and she wanted to set her up for two reasons: (1) to be a flower girl in her aunt's wedding party, and (b) to have a little cousin.
    Seriously, ask Breana...she once asked the gas fitter at their new house if he was single. What a kid - always looking out for her aunt!

    So, I'm glad we could kinda sorta make one of her wishes come true...

    Here is a recent photo of Breana (who is almost as tall as Kathie), and the recent addition to their family - Surfer!

  • Abby Stephenson-Lawford, God daughter of the bride

    Primary Show-Stealer and Flower Girl

    Abby's mom, Cori, and Kathie have been best friends since they were about 11 or 12 years old in grade school (which is really only about 15 years - right Cori!?). I stood up for Cori when she married Cam back in September 2000, and their daughter, four-year old Abby, is my adorable (and only) God Daughter. While, with the exception of immediate family, the reception is an adult-only party, Abby will make a special guest appearance for our wedding ceremony as our "flower girl."

    Abby is a fun, smart and amazingly outgoing little girl, and even though we aren't having a "Wedding Party" proper, our wedding ceremony wouldn't be the same if Abby weren't a little part of it.

  • Anne Lennox, sister of the Groom

    Star Witness #1

    Anne is John's eldest sister, and while again, we decided to not have an official wedding party, we wanted to give special roles to our family members. Anne has graciously accepted our request to act as his witness for the signing of our marriage licence on September 5th, 2009. Anne and her partner, Aldo, have recently discovered a love for cruising, and here is a great photo of Anne on one of their recent trips. Thanks for helping us out, Anne!

  • Lynn Whitehouse, sister of the bride

    Star Witness #2

    Lynn is Kathie's eldest and only sister. While nine years different in age seemed like an eternity when we were young, as adults, Lynn and Kathie are very close. Who better to ask to be a part of our special day by signing the marriage licence than Lynn? Breana, Kathie's only niece, is Lynn (and her husband, Bill's) only child.

    Here is a photo taken a year ago September, when Kathie, Lynn and their life-long friend Heather from San Diego (see 'About the Wedding' page), stole a few days away on Wolfe Island, off of Kingston, Ontario. This photo was taken on the ferry that transports passengers to and from the Island.
