It takes a Village...Part II (by Kathie, the bride)

Following along the 'friends and family participation make the day that much better,' enter Jono! Another very good friend and former co-worker of mine from Peterborough, Jono Fiddler, has also, and very kindly, accepted our challenge to contribute to our cause. Pictured here playing the guitar with his current band, Hundred Year Champions, last November at the Spill in Peterborough, we've asked Jono if he would play a tune as I make my way down the aisle.
Big deal, right?
Well, Jono and the guitar hold a very special place for me.
Many years ago (about 11 or 12, if memory serves), Kathie and Jono decided they would learn how to play the guitar - from scratch. Each picking up a decent (read: cheap) new accoustic guitar, Wednesday's became guitar night at my place, where every seven days we would challenge ourselves to learn more notes, drink a pot of coffee, discuss life and world politics, and with the help of the Internet and downloadable free tablature, we would work on perfecting (or merely getting through) some of our favourite songs. Some of them weren't pretty, and some of them we abandoned to move on to something simpler (after all, Green Day and Jesus and Mary Chain managed to become huge by only playing an average of three chords in any given song). Sometimes, we did really well - there was a great vibe and we, and our guitars, just clicked, and huge strides were made! So confident did we become in our plucking, that we each ran out and purchased an electric guitar and small amp! That's when we really turned up the volume on our musical studies.
Jono and I even had a band name - Ethel Dylan - the story of which will be left for another day. And my electric guitar? Well, her name is Red Ethel, of course!
Those days were fun...and then, a couple years later I moved back to Toronto, and while Wednesday night guitar practice continued, Jono (thankfully) found some new people to strum with.
Since those days, Jono has become really, really good at playing the guitar, while my Red Ethel sits on her stand and looks back at me, as pretty as can be and complete with her pick on the ready; I often long for those Wednesday night guitar nights. And there, she sits - having in recent years taken a back seat in my life to swimming, biking and running, and of course, Ironman. I vow, however, to pick her up again soon - there's just something about creating music that gets you, right down to your soul. I miss that.
Fast forward to 2009
When it came time for us to think about music and aisle-walking, I didn't need to think twice about what - or rather, who - I wanted to be a part of our special day: Who else but Jono? Flattered at my request, Jono naturally accepted my invitation to strum, however - and this is the MOST EXCITING part, he has started to compose his own tune for our wedding, rather than relying on something by Wagner! Isn't that cool?!
I honestly can't wait! Thank you, Jono! Bring some CD's to sell at the wedding!
